After a steady reduction in its size (down to a page a month), Total Film magazine has finally axed its "Independents' Day" indy film coverage completely.
Another forum for those of us without a distributor to publicise our work has vanished.
I urge you ALL to email [email protected] , make it known that you are an independent film-maker and complain loudly. I have.

there are powers at work that we can't possibly understand ...
why not just enter your short into BAVA in a bid to win a grand ...
perhaps total film are running out of indie work to publiscise? perhaps their readers just aren't interested?
subscribe to screen international instead ...

I was well pissed off when TotalFilm axed Independents'Day from their regular slot.
I can understand why they did it though, probably lack of interest from the general public!
I was gonna send the Exposure Shorts CD to them.... they would have been great publicity for us! - anyway "ce la vie"

My dissent was registered in an email to them several weeks ago.
They can't be short of material, because I sent them my short film a few months ago, and they said that due to volume of submissions received, they don't have space to review it.
Maybe not, but they can find the space to devote 20 pages to Lord Of The Fucking Rings, can't they?
I think Total Film may be on their way out. Their website isn't their anymore for a start.

BAVA - British Amateur Video Awards, Wholly organised by the WV Publications (eg Camcorder User, Video Camera and What Video &TV Magazines). The competition is there to promote the art of video-making. The closing date is usually about the end of September. To enter you require the official entry form from one of the above magazines. The basic rules are the finished product should have a maximum running time of 15 minutes, can be shot or produced on any video format and can be on any subject (eg documentary, drama, comedy, music or animation)

I don't think they're on their way out. They've just had a little redesign of the mag, so maybe they're redoing the site too.
My guess is the section went due to reader apathy. Doe the average Joe Multiplex really want to read about some weird-ass ten minute film they'll never get to see anyway?
When I am impossibly rich, I will get my Screen Int'l subscription.
BAV's a good idea, tho', miker, do they have a website?
